Max Pinckers (b. 1988, Brussels) is a Belgian contemporary photographer known for merging documentary photography with conceptual storytelling. His work explores themes like truth, fiction, and media perception, often blurring the line between reality and staging.
Pinckers studied at the School of Arts / KASK in Ghent, where he now teaches. His long-term projects examine complex topics such as press freedom, propaganda, and social narratives—from North Korea to Thailand and India. He uses photography alongside text, interviews, and archival material to build layered visual narratives.
His acclaimed photobooks include The Fourth Wall (2012), Will They Sing Like Raindrops or Leave Me Thirsty (2014), Money Must Be Made (2017), and Margins of Excess (2018). These works highlight his dedication to photobook cultureand photography as a critical medium.
Pinckers has exhibited internationally at Foam Amsterdam, Bozar Brussels, Fotomuseum Winterthur, and Les Rencontres d’Arles, among others. His awards include the Edward Steichen Award Luxembourg and nominations for the Prix Elysée and Magnum Foundation Grant.
Pinckers is part of a new generation questioning how photography shapes our understanding of truth. His images invite viewers to reflect on how stories are told—and who tells them.
