Feng Li
Feng Li (b. 1971, Chengdu, China) is a Chinese photographer known for his bold and surreal street photography. He captures strange, dreamlike moments in everyday life. His images are direct, colorful, and often unsettling.
Feng Li works as an official photographer for the Sichuan provincial government. Yet his personal work tells a very different story. His series White Night is his most recognized body of work. It documents random encounters in Chengdu’s streets—full of mystery, humor, and absurdity.
His style blends documentary photography with a surreal edge. Flash lighting, awkward gestures, and strange details give his work a sense of unease. People appear caught between reality and illusion.
Feng Li rejects narrative. Instead, he captures instinctive, visceral moments. His photos feel spontaneous but are carefully observed. Each image invites questions without clear answers.
His work has been shown internationally, including at Jimei x Arles, Fotomuseum Winterthur, and Les Rencontres d’Arles. Stieglitz19 has exhibited his work in Europe, supporting his unique vision in contemporary Chinese photography.
Feng Li has published several books, including White Night, which became a cult hit in the photo world. He continues to photograph obsessively in his hometown and beyond.
Feng Li’s photography challenges how we see the world—strange, funny, and real all at once.
